However, the true destination of Christians, according to their belief, is in heaven with God. Thus, Christians are not really of the world, but rather of a higher origin. The idea of Christians being in the world but not of the world has been preached throughout most of the history of the church. The entire Christian faith was founded on the basis that we exist as humans, however, there is a higher level of existence that will never truly understand while on the Earth. Although God’s presence is felt in the world, God only truly exists in the higher level. As humans, we exist temporailly on the Earth and, after death, for eternity with God in a completely new existence. Many people during the early years of the church, and today as well, could not understand such an idea. The members of the clergy, in their ever-existant attempt at forcing their religion upon the masses, needed something to help the people to picture their multi-existance concept.
