Sir Gawain was an accomplished Knight that showed an extreme amount of courage in the events in his life. Just like the middle Ages, people today have a much higher respect for those of us who choose to be honest. Sir Gawain was a very honest Knight, who showed a lot of honor. To be an honest Knight like Sir Gawain, the Knights had to learn to be honest with themselves as well. There is no way that Sir Gawain could be honest with the court or anyone he ran into along the way, if he was not honest with himself. Along with being an honest Knight, the Knight had to be able to not bring personal feelings or thoughts into his honesty. They cannot let their feelings about something become a fact to their speech. When a Knight is honest, he also tends to be loyal to the people he represents. Loyalty is a big part of a Chivalric Knight, because loyalty and honesty go hand in hand. A loyal Knight represents and respects a number of different people, and in return, the Knights are respected as well. A Chivalric Knight is not only loyal to his family, friends, the court, and ladies, but also to the principle. A loyal Knight personally sacrifices his opinion, support, and the thoughts of respected people around him, to be loyal to another person. Being loyal is either defending or helping someone. The loyalty works both ways. The Knight needs to defend people when they are getting in trouble, only if they are being honest about the situation. The Knight also needs to help someone, although both are extremely important to loyalty, the Knights need to find a medium between the two.
