It is a code of ethics and conduct influenced by Christianity. Knights had to be loyal, courteous, honourable and gentle. They sought love and glory- for their king and lady first. They also had to be courageous, humble, obedient and chaste. They lived to serve their king and country and to defend the crown. They were to show respect and protection to those weaker and unarmed, especially women. Especially women. Feminism has killed chivalry. The whole concept of chivalry originated in a society where men and women were not equal. If I had to pick the decade in which chivalry was clubbed to death by the feminists, I would have to go back to the start of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the 1970’s.
