One day at school, the teachers took the kids to go play baseball, but Eben was too afraid and he decided to hide and waste away time until they finished. Eben continued to do this. During his third year of high school, his mother dies. After graduating he gets his first job. However, there was a game of baseball with the faculty members and the trustees that he had to attend. He makes a grand swing but he runs over the player in front of him. The boss quickly fires him, and tells him to be gone. Years later he marries and has children. He finds out that his father died. He goes to the funeral, but still he has the fear of playing baseball. When Eben’s first kid turned nine, he brings all of his sons to go to Yankee Stadium to see their first game. He ends up catching a ball barehanded, and finally his fear of baseball goes away and gives him freedom from his father and the darkness that had plagued his life for a very long time. 4.
