When there was talk of the beast he was there to reassure everybody, especially the Littleuns. “We’ve got to talk about this fear and decide there’s nothing in it…”His optimistic view towards the problem meant that the Littleuns looked up to him and had faith in him. Ralph would not be as good a leader as he was without Piggy. Piggy had the ideas of the shelter and the fire. Piggy did not voice his ideas as he knew that no one would listen instead he told Ralph the ideas and he suggested them as he was leader. Piggy is the next person we meet. Piggy is the opposite of Ralph. He is overweight, ugly, unfit and suffers from asthma. However Piggy is the most intelligent of all the boys. He can analyze the situation much quicker than everyone else. He gives a scientific explanation for the beast problem “You have doctors for everything….isn’t no fear either”. However he is at a disadvantage with his looks. The minute that the other boys see him he is bullied “shut up fatty”. Piggy is also very organized. He tries to seem confident and calm. Piggy tries to fit in but can’t. He knows that they don’t want to be overruled by rules but he also knows that the rules will contribute to their rescue. “A conch he called it….ever so valuable” Piggy knows what the conch is called and he suggests that they should use it to call the others. Piggy is like a Martyr he tries his best to join in with the others, but never succeeds. I personally think that the others envy his intelligence that is why he can never join in. Each time that Piggy suggests an idea they mock him and it hurts him. He tries his best to join in but fails. When Piggy dies Ralph feels lost as he has lost his only “true” friend on the island” Like Piggy and Ralph, Simon is also good hearted. He is spiritual. He has his own space in the island where he goes to meditate. It is a bit like a church “the candle-buds…their scent spilled out” Simon...
