Then Greg says to the class: “Once you have a partner, I’m going to give you and your partner a question. (several kids still talk while Greg explains). He continues: “Before we start, I want to read a couple of the dreams you wrote; two that were really good. What I was looking at was word choice and imagery. I won’t read the names of the writers out loud.” He reads the first one. The class, all seated, listens without talking. He then reads the second example, and again the class listens. Greg says about the writing, “Very good, very descriptive.” He reads another that he thought would make a good film for the upcoming film festival. A hand goes up. “When is the film festival?” Greg says it is toward mid-May, or the end of May. Greg then reads a third student-written dream. Greg says everybody did a great job on writing his or her dreams. He thanks them for being very open and honest in their writing. He says he wants them to keep the dreams in mind as they watch the video about Gargoyles. Greg then assigns questions to the pairs by reading questions off his computer screen.
