...le on a flat surface and turn the engine off. 4. Remove the oil filler cap located on the valve cover where you add oil, and set aside. 5. Set the oil container pan underneath the drain plug to collect all the oil that is released from the hole. 6. Now using a wrench, twist and remove the drain plug and let the oil drain into the container pan. Warning: Be careful not to touch the engine oil, it may be hot and could burn. Once the oil has been drained, wipe the drain plug and washer before tightening back into the slot. 9. Take the oil container pan and set underneath the oil filter to collect the filter and extra oil that drains out once removed. 10. Remove the oil filter with the oil filter wrench once removed, set the oil filter in the pan. Figure 2 Oil Filter 11. Open the new oil filter box. Now open the oil container and apply a thin coating of the engine oil to the seal of the filter. Note: Applying a layer of oil to the seal allows you to remove the oil filter later, if this is not done, the oil filter will seal itself to the engine, creating problems when trying to remove it. 12. Screw the new filter into the filter pipe with your hands. Once you cannot turn it further, twist it with the oil filter wrench ¼ turn more. Caution: Be careful not to over-tighten the oil filter, it could cause an oil leak. 13. Remove the oil container pan from beneath the car and set it aside to safely dispose of it later.
