With the Vietnam War in the late 1960's early 1970's, followed by Watergate, as well as Iran hostage crisis and all making the government seem ineffective in its decisions. This created cynicism in the American people and caused a massive realignment from people taking an important role in government to being inactive and many people just didn't vote anymore. With these problems as well as the declining economy and the oil embargo people began to distrust the government. The Oil embargo was key in this because of the governments inefficiency of handling this many people turned away from the big American muscle cars of the 1960's and early 1970's and went to more fuel efficient and compact Asian cars. Thus causing the US car market to take a hit as well as the rest of the economy. Another change in society was the growing rate of immigration. The number of minorities greatly increased. Most of the immigrants that came to the U.S in the 1970’s were illegal immigrants from Latin American and Asia. Also minority rights were passed. Mexicans were forced to leave but then they were encouraged to come back and take low paying jobs. After a series of boycott’s they finally gained collective bargaining rights for farm workers 1975....
