Changes in Attitude toward the Passing Of Times

...uring the battles of Yugoslavia (461 Bombardment Group 8) when he and his Jewish family are burying their treasures to dig up in twenty years. Wiesel seems confused and naïve of the acts taking place during this time (Wiesel 16-31.) Now both character attitudes have changed dramatically to adjust to their surroundings in the second passage. They now are leaning towards similar characteristics of negative feelings towards themselves or at their loved ones. Jackie has been preparing for the sacraments of penance and communion by another elderly woman, Ryan, who impresses on the child of the gravity of the rituals by emphasizing the perils of damnation (Madden 6-7.) During this period Jackie is growing more frightened of his first confession then he was throughout the other passages. For Wiesel twenty years have passed by and he is discussing his remembrance of burying his treasure, which was his watch. He describes his desires to see if his watch is in the same spot of its burial (Wiesel 35-39.) His attitudes seem to be eagerness and impatience while Jackie’s attitude seemed to be of fear. These two attitudes in the characters seem to be opposing instead of growing in the same resemblance like they were in passage two. The next day following Jackie is due for his first confession and is feeling more frightened and obligated to go to confession with his sister Nora (Madden 13.) As Jackie enters the room for confession and finally admits to his sins to the priest he feels his heart as if its pounding more and more but he continues to discuss how he attempted to stab at his sister Nora with a butter knife and how he had thoughts of killing his grandmother (O’Connor 188, 210.) After discussing his sins with the priest he felt more relaxed as the priest was sympathetic to him and only assigned him with a few penitents of Hail Mary's. For Wiesel his next mission consists of finding the burial of his treasured watch. As he is searching for his beloved treasure he comes to the realization that he does not have a shovel to dig below at the dirt. The author at first finds himself in a panic frenzy and then decides to use his fingernails in desperation. As the author continues to dig for his watch he becomes more determined and starts digging faster and uncontrollably he soon finds his watch and is revolted at first of t...
