...nd since he was a little kid. Guitar has been the one that Milkman goes to when he wants to know something. He always talks to him about everything and anything. In the beginning, Guitar and Milkman were very close with one another. Guitar treated Milkman like a little brother. When Milkman was twelve years old, he and Guitar went to Feather's Pool Hall, but was asked to leave because he was underage and on account of Macon being his father. Guitar defended him saying " 'Come on, Feather, he's my friend' " (Morrison, 57) and also saying " 'He can't help who his father is' " (Morrison, 57). They left after Feather still refused. Guitar defending Milkman shows that Guitar really is a good friend to him, because he looks out for him and stands up for him. After several years, Milkman began realizing that Guitar has been keeping something very serious from him. He never found out until Guitar finally gave in and told him his secret. He began telling Milkman of a society, Seven Days, who are "...made up of a few men who are willing to take some risks" (Morrison, 154). After he finished explaining everything to him, Milkman says "What your doing is crazy" (Morrison, 159). He highly disagrees with Guitar's decision with being involved with the Seven Days. After learning this, things do seem to change with their friendship. However, things do seem to go back to normal when Milkman proposes to Guitar with a plan to steal gold. But Milkman still does not have the nerve to ask him about Seven Days. He wants to, but he still cannot bring himself to ask him. He though he "could ask him one day, but not this day when it was so much like old times. Taking risks together the way they did..." (Morrison, 177). He didn't want to lose that feeling again. After the failed attempt to steal the gold, which turned out to be nothing more than a sack of bones, Guitar's attitude seems to change. He was upset that Pilaet did not have gold, "His anger was like heat shimmering out of his skin..." (Morrison, 207). Milkman had noticed that Guitar had given Pliate a look of hatred when she left with her sack of bones. Later that evening, Milkman "though again of how Guitar had looked at Pilate- the jeweled hatred in his eyes. He had no right to that look. Suddenly Milkman knew the answer to the question he had never been able to ask Guitar. Guitar could kill, would kill, and probably had killed" (Morrison, 210). Again their friendship shifter downwards. It was back to the saem awkwardness when he first learned of the Seven Days. Their relationship was no longer be the same again. Later on in the book when Milkman told Guitar he was heading to Pennsylvania to find the gold, Guitar also wanted to come along. But milkman told him it would be to suspicious. This may have lead Guitar to think that Milkman wanted the gold for himself. During Milkman's stay, he receives a message informing him that Guitar was looking for him. confused feeling went through his mind, but ignored them. One day in the woods, Guitar tries to kill him but failed. Milkman didn't know what to think, he just could not believe that Guitar would try to kill him. In the next few days, Milkman runs into Guitar again, and he begins accusing Milkman of taking to gold. He claimed he saw him shipping a box at the station. Milkman realized that he had things all wrong, Guitar had seem him helping a man lift a crate, which Guitar had thought it to be the gold. Guitar, of course, did not beleive him because "it sounded like a lie" (Morrison, 296). Now Milkman knew why Guitar wanted to kill him- over greed and lust over gold. The friendship they once had was gone. his best friend had tried to kill him and will heep trying until he is dead. In the ending scene of the book, Milkman takes a leap, but it is uncertain to where, possibly off a cliff. What happens to Guitar is also unclear. But what is certain is that Milkman dies. Corinthians is also Milkman's older...
