He saw through years how my other aunts and uncles raised their children with American culture and compared it with how he was raised in Ecuadorian culture. My cousins who were raised with American culture were somehow cold people not the kind of person who gives hugs or kisses to his/her family. People in United States are most of the time cold with each other, even between families. Family is the most important for Hispanic people. At the age of eighteen Hispanic children don’t leave their houses for something that Americans call “independence”. It is not independence because independence is not depending of other people. Even when daughters and sons leave their homes, they are still dependent on their parents; they are the ones paying the bills. In contrast, in Latin America children don’t leave their homes sometimes until they get married and not because they have to stay, it is because they don’t want to leave the warm place that they have living with their families. After thinking for a long time, my uncle finally reached his conclusion and decided to raise his daughter with both American and Ecuadorian cultures. One of the most important reasons that made my uncle raised his daughter in an American world but under an Ecuadorian culture was that he wanted to keep that family love that most Americans don’t have. He said that if we don’t respect and keep our own culture, nobody would do it for us. If we loose it, when we notice it will be too late and we already have lost our wonderful culture. The knowledge I have about the topic I choose is personal. I have a lot of family who moved from Ecuador to the United States when they were young.
