Media is an extremely important cultural institution and since Canadians are exposed to so much American culture, this adopting was inevitable. Canadian culture must be preserved or even bettered so they can have a sense of uniqueness that Canadians can be proud of. It has been for too long that the Canadian culture mimicked the American¡¯s. A stronger Canadian broadcasting system would create a stronger sense of patriotism in Canada. Since most of the television programs are American, Canada lacks the confidence that a thriving country should have. Pride is an extremely important quality that Canada should have. But because of the lack of a strong broadcasting system, Canadians lose a sense of national identity. So many talented, Canadian actors and actresses go to the United States in hopes of becoming famous. Canada does not have enough confidence to recognize the talent in their country until they have become famous elsewhere. Better Canadian television programming would in a way provide the nation with the confidence that they deserve. Media allows a country to unify itself by exchanging information nationwide. Canadians need a stronger public broadcasting system so the people can relate to each other and see what kind of people are apart of their society. People across Canada can exchange information about each region, and share ideas and opinions.
