However Britain would not take this from the colonists so they fought back with more taxes and harsher laws, this lead to the revolutionary war. The major goal of the colonist was freedom. They wanted freedom from British rule, from the British taxes, and just Britain on the whole. During the war there was many different types of reactions by the colonists. Some of the colonists would not fight on either side because they were afraid of being in a battle. They didn't want to fight for America to just lose then be at bad odds with the British.
