As the story progresses, you can see the husband’s attitude toward Robert starting to change. The husband was impressed that Robert could eat with a knife and fork like anyone else. He also noticed later that Robert could smoke marijuana correctly, just like a normal person. When the wife falls asleep and the men turn on the TV, the husband tries to explain to Robert what a cathedral looks like. Robert suggests that they draw one together, with Robert’s hands on top of the husbands hands. When they finish the drawing the husband’s eyes are still closed.
