The articles or books published are results of years of studies within these writers' field, and can make or break careers. These writers are considering experienced and highly regarded writers with a deeply specialized knowledge of their writing. Another group of career writers is the columnists and journalists. These writers are typically making their living by following and commenting on the news. Their works in the national and local newspapers and magazines are read everyday by millions of people. Writing a new article every week for the same newspaper can be a challenge. In larger newspapers and magazines there often are a staff of journalists and columnists with an established name who provide the regular articles. Full time and experienced journalists and columnists are usually able to make a living and can make a respectable side income, even though their working conditions are quite troublesome. The most recognizable, well known, and well paid group of career writers is the novelists, also known as authors, write long stories. Most novels are usually about love, money, magic, and many imaginary tales. Much can be said about the craft, but the prime virtue of a novelist is the ability to plan and complete the work.
