The only way to access the lighthouse is by boat. The lighthouse was used to warn ships of the sandbar called Frying Pan Shoals. It was forty miles from the nearest lighthouse. It was built very different from other lighthouses. “Old Baldy” was built in an octagon shape. It is made of brick with a stone foundation. It is one hundred feet tall.
