...f the government would set a standard for water efficiency on these appliances, then the state won't be in a waterless condition in under 12 years. These changes, along with a host of household upgrages are easy and achievable. If attitudes can be improved, and water can be seen as a privelage, rather than a right, then the future is much more promising for victoria. So in the end the the water "crisis" is only a crisis if we make it. All it takes is a little effort. Perhaps the rest of Australia can also avoid such huge consequences can be curved in the future, for this dry red land. Clearly, melbourne, and the surrounding countryside can avoid a dry future by cleaning up it's act now. And ensuring that future generations have a different attitude to water, and it's wastage....
