can rats improve the future
...this new behavioral neuroscience. the most immediate applications could be life saving. a remote controlled rat could be sent through land mine fields to assist in locating active mines. these same rats could sqeeze their way through cracks and crevices of eathquake debris where it would take normal rescuers hours and days of efforts. remote control rats with tracking devices could pinpoint victims trapped below the ruins of collapsed buildings. these same rats could squeeze into tiny areas and be part of a sophisticated surveillance operation, literally taking listening devices through the walls. additionally, some researchers hope to have positive results on neural prosthesis. however, not all neuroscientists, such as gyorgybzoaki of rutgers university agree. buzsaki feels the rat robotics is interesting but does not apply to human studies. so why rats? rats are relatively easy with which to work. they are already universally accepted as a scietific research ...
