...us of the mind and having control of it. We had the pleasure to have Mrs. Vickie Smith come to our class to visit with us and share her religion (Buddhism). I am sure at first Mrs. Smith did not have any idea how we were going to welcome her. Our class that night was respectful and honest when asking their questions. Mrs. Smith spoke about her life, she revealed to us about not being interested in becoming apart of the Buddhism religion the first time around. She expressed that in that particular time of her life she had no idea a few years later she would be practicing Buddhism. The first time she was approached she said no. Later on in her life she became apart of the Buddhism religion. Mrs. Smith talked about Buddhism the religion and explained that there are other forms of Buddhism which are Theravada, Mahayana, and Zen Buddhism. She spoke of her daily meditation which started as early as 5:00a.m.. The time for meditation was easier for her when her children were asleep. One of the questions asked that night was “Are you going to make your children practice Buddhism”? She replied, “when they get older and decide on what religion they want to practice, they may choose any religion they want”. “However, while they are growing up now they will practice Buddhism.” As the night went on Mrs. Smith shared an experience about one of her patients. The patient was very hard to please. When the patient would get that way Vickie stated “it is very easy to get angry“, but through the teaching of her religion it helps her get through tough days such as this one.
