The rock did not hit him and William displayed courage and bravery in this event. He displays his second act of heroism when he tried to protect his wife from the English warriors. He fends off the three men and then fights his way out of the village to meet Lauren at the grove. He finds out that Lauren did not make it so he comes back to the village to find her throat slit. Because William assaulted the king’s soldiers while protecting his wife, the English nobleman murdered his wife. When William comes back to the village, it is being guarded my many English men. He is fearless and rides right into the center of the village. He puts his hands up as if he is surrendering. He then takes out his weapon and proceeds to fight many English men. The villagers join in to fend off all the English warriors. Wallace continues to fight as arrows are being shot directly at him. He kills the archers, and then William and the villagers converge on the leader of the English warriors. He then kicks him and kills him the same way that his wife was killed. He did not give up until he accomplished his goal. He avenged his wife’s death and killed the noble lord. The villagers immediately begin to chant “WALLACE, WALLACE, WALLACE, WALLACE.” William is now regarded as a hero Now, William has witnessed 3 close members of his family die and he couldn’t do anything to prevent it. Wallace fights with passion and he inspires. He truly shows the sign of a hero through many battles as he fights to avenge the death of his family. The magistrate wished to capture him and found he had a secret lover so the magistrate cut the girls throat tempting Wallace to fight, and fight he did. Knowing his passion for his lost love, they next plotted to take him by desecrating the graves of his father and mother and setting an ambush at the grave of his love. He fought his way through the trap and carried her body to a secret place. Now he is going to avenge their deaths. Clansmen from all over Scotland converge into one army to fight the English and regain their freedom. Wallace begins his quest for freedom by taking over the magistrate’s village in York. He proclaims, “I am William Wallace, and the rest of you will be spared. Go back to England and tell them there that Scotland’s sons and daughters are no longer theirs. Tell them Scotland is free.” “Are you ready for a war?” William Wallace shouts. The Scotsman reply, “William Wallace, we’ve come to fight and die for ya.” In the first battle, William and his men are outnumbered three to one. His excellent leadership skills and warrior instincts convince the men to stay and fight. At first, the men leave because they are scared. But, when William Wallace and his men come, the clan is revived. At first they do not believe that it is Wallace. William Wallace shouts, “Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.” A Scotsman then states, “William Wallace is seven feet tall.” William responds and shouts, “Yes I’ve heard, kills men by the hundred, and if he were here, he’d consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. I am William Wallace and I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance and tyranny. You’ve come to fight as free men and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? He then yells, “ Will ya fight?” They are still skeptical so he then says “Fight and you may die, run and you may live, at least a while, and dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they will never take our FREEDOM.” This gets every single warrior in the mindset for war and now they are all ready to charge and fight the English. Wallace shows his perseverance when he meets with the English nobles before the battle. Wallace states on behalf of Scotland, “Here our Scotland’s terms. Lower your flags and march straight back to England. And every home you pass by, beg forgiveness for a hundred years of theft rape and murder. Do that and your men shall live. It is hand to hand combat and many men are killed. At this point, the horsemen that left earlier now converge on the English from behind. William beheads the leader of the English army. The English army retreats and the battle is won by the Scotsmen. Many are left dead and hundreds are left wounded.
