They form clusters to shut small holes in blood vessels and help form blood clots. White blood cells are another type of blood cell carried in the blood. They are made in bone marrow like red blood cells. They are the body’s defense against disease-causing bacteria. Red blood cells are the most common type of blood cell carried in the blood. Like most blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, especially in the ribs, hips, vertebrae and skull. They also carry oxygen. Red blood cells take up oxygen in the lungs and deliver it to elsewhere in the body. They are also filled with an orange-red substance called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin contains iron and binds chemically to oxygen molecules. Plasma carries various types of blood cells though out the body. In an adult man, the blood is about 1/12th of the body weight. Blood consists of 55 % plasma, and 45 % by cells. If you did not have enough blood cells then you would not have enough oxygen in your body so you would be tired. If you do not have enough white blood cells then you would get sick because they have fight diseases. Doctors can sometimes tell that you have cancer when you have too many white blood cells.
