When the author chose the words to describe the man in this relationship, she used “self-satisfied”, in today’s terminology that would equate to arrogance. When a person is arrogant they tend to have a strong willed personality and are normally dominant in the relationship. Also, an arrogant person normally tends to like everything scheduled and in order, he or she feels as though they have control over a given situation.
