...was the capital of Prussia until 1945 and the capital of Germany between 1871 and 1945.Between 1949 and 1990,it was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin.It was divided by the Berlin wall between August 13,1961 and November 9,1989. The city is famous for its Brandenburg gate which is the most photographed site and Berlin wall although it no longer exists.TRhe Berlin wall waas constructed in august 13,1961 due to dissatisfaction with the economic and political conditions.The border between West and East Berlin ,GDR had a total length of 107km at this border.At least 100 people were killed at the Berlin wall incident and 60000 workers unemloyed. Brandenburg gate is the only remaining gate of the 18 that once graced Berlin .It was crowned by an ornate sculpture representing the goddes Victory.The gate was once the boundary between East and West Berlin.In 1989,after the dissolution of the border,tyhe area was reopened to the public.
