Now that Beowulf is mortal, he has a trait of an Epic Hero. Later on in the final battle the dragon, Beowulf is wounded and dies short after. Since Beowulf has died, this shows that he is mortal. If an Epic Hero dies or is wounded means that he or she is mortal. Being mortal is one characteristic of an Epic Hero. Another quality Beowulf has that makes him an Epic Hero is his bravery. When Beowulf goes to fight Grendel’s mother, he dives into a lake, which is full of large monsters. This shows his bravery because he dived into a lake, which no one would even dare to. By being brave, Beowulf has another characteristic of an Epic Hero. To be and to remain as one, an Epic Hero must posses the characteristic of bravery.
