The other knights and I were kind of upset at Williams decision to take the lower ground because the Saxons were atop a hill and it is a lot harder to fight up hill then down. Then I started thinking about my wife Ermentrude, and my two children Rohese and Catherine and how I might not see them ever again. It got me upset, but it also pumped me up in a way because I figured the harder I fight the more of a chance I will get out of the battle alive. In the middle of my thoughts William got everyone’s attention and started arranging his battle formation. The Bretons were on the left, the Flemish Contingent was on the right, and we were in the middle. William set up archers in the front row, then behind the archers were 7 rows of foot soldiers, and then behind them were the cavalry. William had his command post behind the cavalry. My job was to kill anyone that got through the cavalry. Once the Saxons got word about us moving into attack position Harold moved all of his me down Caldbec Hill to within 200 meters of us.
