...at you can conduct is a pass. When you pass you should already be facing the basketball and watching you team members and their current position. You should use fake passes if possible. The second threat is to shoot. You use this threat if the defense backs off and you are in shooting range. The last threat is a drive. You can use this when your defense looks away, is off balance or facing the wrong way. When this occurs take advantage and drive towards the basket. 3. Explain each of the following terms: a) an outlet pass. An outlet pass is when a rebounder passes the ball to another team mate that initiates the fast break. The team mate should be running or near the side lines of the court so the team then can take it into their offensive half. b) A give and go The give-and-go is one of the most effective offensive plays. It involves speed and timing. A player passes to a team-mate, and as the team-mate receives the pass, the passer explodes forward past the defender and looks for a quick return pass. If done right, the give-and-go will lead to a lay-up. c) A V cut A V cut is a quick change in direction and this is usually used by the wing players. You take your defender in one direction and then cut back to the ball in a v shaped pattern and receive a pass. d) Court Balance Court Balance is a term meaning that the offensive players are distributed evenly around the offensive court, usually around the 3 point line, one in the centre and two on each side. e) Double Team Double team is when who two defensive players both defend one offensive player. This means that the defenders are closer to the same size, speed etc to their opponent. This makes it easier to compete against them. It is easier to conduct effective double-teaming because you are man to man and you can move quicker to help out and pressure man to man defence allows for good fast break opportunities as you will only have one defender on you and you and your team are spread out ready to receive or do the outlet pass and run down the court. b) Disadvantages associated with this type of defence. Disadvantages include it being tougher for the individual and needs high stamina because you are running a lot more and following your player, players can get fouls a lot easier this way and if the team is a good screening and cutting team they will outrun you as they will move to quickly. If the offensive team get a fast break off your offence it is hard to catch up and defend. 5.
