... done individually. Description: Astronomy is divided into two main categories astrophysics and astronomy. Astronomers use highly advanced telescopes and computer equipment to observe the Universe and celestial bodies while collecting and analyzing data. They figure the positions of stars and planets, and calculate orbits of comets, asteroids, and artificial satellites. Astronomers make statistical studies of stars and galaxies. They also construct mathematical tables giving positions of the sun, moon, planets and stars at a given time. By observing and using data collected by spacecraft and earth satellites, astronomers study the size and shape of the earth and the properties of its upper atmosphere. For night observations of the skies astronomers use ground-based telescopes. They have been able to magnify stars at a much greater percentage then land based capability allowed by launching orbiting telescopes. This allows astronomers see further off then earth’s boundaries, they are able to see objects in space and determine whether they are dangerous to earth.
