If people were to experience the hardships of another country were you could be killed for talking about the government people wouldn't be the same. When a person is born and raised in a world that is what they know, therefore their environment is what decides their personality, decision-making, and basically everything they do for the rest of their lives. Obviously the environment from the Middle Ages, 1700's, even 100 years ago was much different then the way it is today. People from the past would never have been able to imagine the type of world that we know of today. For this reason people are very different that their ancestors. Generations change, no two generations are ever completely similar because as times change, environment changes, and people change. It's all based on a chain of reasoning.
