...t as hard as the rest of the family. They all work together to fill the empty space left by the death of their mother, Addie. They do the chores normally done by their mother, and they do everything they can to give her a respectable funeral. Faulkner also portrayed an epic tradition by showing the obstacles the family had to overcome. The goal is to get their mother to Jefferson City to be buried. The obstacles the family had to overcome are the flooding of the bridges, the washing away of the wagon, and time because Addie's decaying body is progressively getting worse day by day. Not to mention that the Bundren Family is a typical family with flaring attitudes that spark life-threatening arguments. Which does not make the trip any easier to complete. The epic journey of this novel is the commute from the Bundren Family's home to Jefferson City. It may not sound very exciting but the obstacles the family had to overcome are journeys in themselves. Traveling was not as easy as it is now, during their time period it is hard to get anywhere outside of ten miles.
