The spell check on a computer is a good example of this. Although it is handy and accurate, we don’t even have to think twice about the word. Because of the ease and the efficiency for obtaining information, computers have become almost a necessity for many people. A major component of the computer technology we all find so efficient is the Internet. We use the Internet to help us find information, shopping, communication, and entertainment. In some extreme cases people may even depend on the Internet as their only source of communication. When thinking of this Internet chat rooms come to mind. There is nothing wrong with these social outlets, but only using chat rooms to interact with people and meet people will take away the experience of human interaction, and result in the loss of humanness. Simple computers are not the only possible threat that humans should take in account, the computer powered machines are taking over jobs all the time. It seems every company has some type of computer that replaces human labor. From car companies, were robots put together the automobile and run the assembly lines, to fast food chains were sodas are dispensed by a rotating machine. The ironic part is that we are creating the machines that take jobs away, and complaining about the declining job market. Some people may disagree and say that machines increase productivity, and with the increase in productivity comes higher earnings for companies, than in turn creates a more profitable economy. Sure work would be more productive, but people without jobs cannot buy the goods so the machines would be working for nothing. We can’t be so reliant on technology because soon enough we will be totally dependent on it and not be able to take care of ourselves as well as we could.
