..., “ The law is strong, we must give in to the law”(682). Antigone perceives Ismene should help because is it her brother also, “He is my brother. And he is your brother, too”(682). Ismene feels that woman are inferior to men, “We are only women. We can not fight with men, Antigone !”(682). There are two main conflicts between Creon and Haimon which include obedience and Antigone’s punishment. Creon expects for all sons to obey their father’s regulation, “ Everything else, my son, to your father’s will. This is what a man prays for, that he may get sons attentive and dutiful in his house”(696). The significance of obedience, to Creon is that a ruler can not run his kingdom wisely without obedience,, “The man who knows how to obey, and that man only, knows how to give commands when the time comes”(696). Haimon believes that obedience is necessary but reason is also needed, “Reason is God’s crowning gift to man, and you are right to warn me against losing mine”(697). Haimon credits his father’s ability to control his kingdom, but does not believe he should control it so sternly, “Your temper terrifies them --- everyone”(697). Another conflict that exist between Creon and Haimon is Antigone’s punishment. Creon thinks that Antigone should not go unpunished whether she is family or not, “I suppose she’ll plead “family ties”. Well, let her”(696). Creon thinks that Haimon should not lose his head over a woman, “So you are right not to lose your head over this woman, your pleasure with her would soon grow cold, Haimon”(696). Haimon feels that his father’s wishes is more important than his engagement to Antigone, “ No marriage means more to me than your continuing wisdom”(696). Haimon does not believe Antigone should be punished, because of her loyalty to her brother, “Died so shameful a death for a generous act”(697). The conflict...
