...at this decision by the king was wrong and unjust. She also felt that it was not Creon’s place to decide what would happen with her brother’s remains. Antigonê was so upset by this, that she went against his ruling and attempted to bury Polyneicês herself. Even when she was caught and brought to the king, she still defied him and accused him of acting like one of the gods. In the clash between Creon and Antigonê, Creon’s rights should have assumed priority. At a personal and moral level, Antigonê may have been correct in her beliefs, but Creon’s position of power should never have been contested. The way I believe that this situation could have been resolved peacefully is if Creon would have let Antigonê give her brother a proper burial, with the exception that it would not be recognized by Thebes. The values of Creon seem to be endorsed throughout the majority of the play. Although, as the play progressed, it seemed as if the values of Antigonê started to spread among other characters in the play.
