For living, they mainly practice shifting cultivation, which includes maize, millet, gourds, groundnut, pumpkins, manioc, bananas, beans, and chickens. In the dry seasons, they will mainly hunt and fish. The chief functions in their group are military, economic and political leaders. The Azande people practice witchcraft. It is the willpower directed from one person to another to cause trouble or death and also the used of oracles, which is through poisoning a chicken and watching how it died. Witchcraft serves as a social control mechanism that people fear of accusation, and the long process of making accusations balances both sides of an argument. The logic behind this is that the natural world was disturbed in some way that had to be witchcraft. “If this man had not been bewitched, he would not have died." The Aztecs, who called themselves the Mexica, started as a small nomadic tribe originating from a place called Aztlan. Aztlan existed somewhere in the southern part of California or the north west of Mexico. During the twelfth century they started a period of wandering and in the thirteenth century they came across Mexico’s central valley. There they decided to settle. Settling by the shores of Lake Texcoco, they saw an eagle on a prickly pear cactus, which indicated where they were to build their great civilization. For that reason they called it Tenochtitlan, meaning place of the cactus. Their social structure includes Nobles, Provincial rulers, Chiefs, Commoners, Serfs, and Slaves.
