...ackson so he got the House of Representatives to vote for Adams. In return Clay got the position of Secretary of State. All of Jackson’s followers were outraged. Adams wanted a strong central government which the Republicans had left for him. The rest of the country however wanted to put more power in the state governments. He also thought that the public money should be used in setting up science, art, and literature programs, but he got little to no support on that. Most people thought it was ridiculous to spend money on such things. Regarding Indian Policies, Adams wanted to protect the Creek Indians. Georgia started to survey Creek land so they could open it up for white settlers. Adams threatened to send in federal troops to end the survey. Georgia defied him defending States Rights. The Creeks eventually moved west of the Mississippi leaving Adams humiliated. Regarding foreign affairs, Adam was also very unsuccessful. Congress blocked his attempt to send delegates to a convention in Panama called by Latin America republics. As Adams administration plummeted, Jackson’s views rose to the top. He gave birth to the Democratic Party, enabling the voters to have a choice. More and more people started to adopt the 2 party system again. With the help of Martin Van Buren and his new campaign style Jackson won the White House in the election of 1828.
