Analysis on Durability of HPC
...the fact that concrete durability can be affected by many factors, which is mostly non-mechanical, it is very difficult to research durability from the angle of mechanics. However, by analyzing the failure phenomenon we can find a common characteristic: all non-mechanical factors make cracks opening, pores enlarging and components loosening in material interior. Considering this phenomenon is similar with the failure caused by load, we can start with researching the process of concrete durable failure. If people can find the parameters reflecting the failure process of concrete under non-mechanical factors, it is possible to unify the durability and the strength in a same basis. Setting the frost durability, which reflects the comprehensive durability of concrete in some sense, as the subject of this thesis, the author considers the problem from the angle of structural engineering, analyzes the specific failure process and classifies the damage development during freeze-thaw cycles into two section: the stable phase before damage localization and the unstable phase after damage localization.
