analizing loneliness

...d and he would be safe. "A guy sets alone out here at night . . . sometimes he gets thinking' an' he got nothing to tell what's so an' what ain't so. Maybe if he sees somethin' he don't know whether it right or not" (pg. 73). If someone was there with Crooks, he could tell Crooks what was there or what was going on. Then when Candy came into the room, they started talking about their dream house and living off the land; Crooks wanted to join in. "If you. . . guys would want a hand to work for nothing--just his keep, why I'd come an' lend a hand. I ain't so crippled I can't work like a son-of-a-bitch if I wanted to" (pg. 76). Crooks was willing to give up everything he had, just to make his dream come true. Crooks was segregated and had no one to talk to. For these reasons and more he was lonely. Candy was willing to do and give more than his share because he had no friends at the ranch. Through these examples Candy has shown his loneliness. She constantly flirted with the men at the ranch to gain attention. One night everyone had gone into town and only Lennie, Curley's wife, Candy, and Crooks were at the ranch.
