An interview with Abelard and Heloise
... me happiness or comfort, I have carried out all your orders so implicitly that I was powerless to oppose you in anything”(Letter #1) I was now ready to make my dignoses young Heloise was some one with an extovert personality. An extrovert is aperson interested and taking pleasure more in what happens outside him/her rather than their own emotional state.Extraverted thinking is not concretized thinking but thought of which both the source and the aim are situated outside the subject. Activity is depended on intellectual conclusions oriented by objective data, the extravert makes these conclusions into a formula. For his/her whole environment extravert can play a useful role in society or an oppressive one. As all the other functions are secondary esthetic activities, friends and passions tend to be repressed. Feeling is most likely to be forced into an unconscious and distorted the more stongly they will oppose the control of intellect, leading to the undermining of conscious goals. Utimately these repressed doubts may lead to the overcompensation of fanaticiism(a wild and often dangerous esthusiasm in politics and religion). Extraverted thinking is characterized as generally predicative, synthetic, and progressive but if other functiions predominate, thinking in the extravert becomes uncreative and negativistic. Peter Abelard Upon finishing with Heloise as I promised I was now on my way to visit Abelard in Abbey of St.Denis In meeting Abelard I did hot want to identify myself in fear he would not open up to me. Instead I pretended to be a clergyman of the church seeking to share my wisdom. As Abelard begins to open up he starts with a consolation of his misfortunes, which gives a detailed account of his life . From his historia calmitation I noticed an sense of arrogance of intellect and a vain man of penetrating mind and skill in debate. Vain of his power to draw aw ay others’ students, vain success with the fair sex. Lastly always sure of hisopinions and unsparing of his adversaries. As he got more into his life he started talking about Heloise and how their life together began. From that I felt in had traits of being a hedonist believing that pleasure is the highest good and that moral duty is fulfilled through pursuit of pleasure. Eventhough marring Heloise was not in his best intrerest i t would only lead to the ruin of his repuation he still saw it as his moral duty in the pursuit of pleasure to marry her. I alson noticed some signs of an optimist someone who had a hopeful view of things. He believed all Heloise needed was god and prayer and all her pain would go away. He starts his first letter Apologizing for not writing her sooner. “I have always felt god’s grace has bestowed on u all essentials to enable ypu to instruct the erring, comfort the weak and encourage the fainthearted.(Letter2) My analyses of Albelard is he is an introvert -It aims to subrdinate the object in order to realize under lying images. Introverted feeling type is inaccessible, obstinate and giving the impression of pleasing reponse unless the stong is too strong. In such cases the obvious turning of his feeling away from it would make him appear indifferent and cold. intemperate passion is taboo for him. Although his feelings are intensive rather extensive a tendency to coerce others with his secert feeling rarely disturbs the normal introvert, but a trace of domineering is evident. In this type unconscious thinking takes the form of a...
