...s more than a six year old could comprehend. The one thing that he did understand was fear. This was his fear of the government. When Luke would start to adapt to his restrictions the conditions would get worse. His parents, out of fear, started to slowly restrict Luke to the attic. The fear that someone would see him through the window or notice a fifth shadow at the table scared them. This fear that the whole family felt was instilled by the government. The life of Luke did not exist outside his house. The family knew that if Luke was discovered he would die. This was why Luke spent the next six years of his life in the attic. His day consisted of reading, watching the neighbors through a vent, and eating diner at the foot of the attic stairs. Until one day he noticed a shadow in the window of the neighbor’s house. His common feelings of loneliness started to slowly dissipate at the thought of another child like him. Although the fear the government created inside him was immense, Luke found the courage to sneak over to the suspected house and take a look. He was right. Not only was there another third child in his neighborhood, there was a whole community of hidden children. The young girl that he met that day forever changed his life. The life his parents created for him out of fear was confined to the walls of his house. The outside world was something Luke knew nothing about. This young girl that came from a family of barons planted new seeds in Luke’s mind. The girl’s father was an officer of the government who did not believe in what his office stood for.
