They began to recognize the American Pit Bull Terrier under the new name of Staffordshire Terrier. This name came from the miners of Staffordshire. In 1972, the name was once again altered by the AKC and American Pit Bull Terriers became known as American Staffordshire Terriers (Am Staff) to set them apart form Staffordshire Bull Terriers of England (Staff). Though a pit bull may immediately cross your mind as being a dog of power, these dogs are very loving too. The characteristics of the APBT has stirred up more human emotional response than any other breed.
