Bull and Terriers would help round up the stock, protect the farm animals from predators by charging at other animals: snakes, coyotes, bears, rats, etc. In 1898, Bull and Terrier dogs were renamed: American Pit Bull Terriers (APBT) by the United Kennel Club (UKC).up until 1936, the American Kennel Club (AKC) wanted nothing to do with breeds called “Pit Bulls” because of their reputation. They began to recognize the American Pit Bull Terrier under the new name of Staffordshire Terrier. This name came from the miners of Staffordshire. In 1972, the name was once again altered by the AKC and American Pit Bull Terriers became known as American Staffordshire Terriers (Am Staff) to set them apart form Staffordshire Bull Terriers of England (Staff). Though a pit bull may immediately cross your mind as being a dog of power, these dogs are very loving too. The characteristics of the APBT has stirred up more human emotional response than any other breed. These dogs have developed the reputation of being vicious, violent dogs that will kill anything that gets in their way, but hat is not true, They have a naturally aggressive nature but it is only geared towards other dogs and animals.
