...olitics, Balance of Power ideals, Protect ourselves and promotion of out own interests -Idealism- America incorporates Idealism into trade agreements. America stays out of WW's until there are moral atrocities. Unilateralism vs. Multilateralism -Strong fear of losing out own soveirgnty, to outside organizations - Why should security council have a veto against our foreign policy? -Unilateral beliefs, deal more with our original isloationsim -Multilateralism- deal with internationalism by getting support for the Iraq War. Revolutionary War: We came to America for 1) Material advantages - a better life, own land, economic development and opportunities. 2) Utopian ideals- escaping religious persecution, life, liberty and happiness. Disputes over economic development taxation with out representations leads to conflict with British Goals: 1. Trade- Maintain strong trade 2. Independence (alliance with France) - Foreign Policy geared towards promoting trade, and development of Navy War of 1812 U.S. Declared war on Great Britain - British maintained control of territories, -Impressments - U.S. sailors captured by British and made to work on British ships -Blockade of France - Napoleonic wars so Britian blockades France so they can't trade and America doesn't believe in this. These three issues lead to the war of 1812 We really didn't really get to much out of this war. They marched into Washington and burned the capitol, but couldn't do much more because of Nepoleonic wars. Treaty of Ghent declared war to be over.
