It seems to me that with allegations as serious as these it seems as if the Archdioceses would try to salvage their reputation and come forward with a statement instead of brushing it off. In January of 2003, Cardinal Bernard F. Law sent out an apology saying he was sorry to have sent an alleged pedophile to a new assignment. In this apology, he apologized to all victims of sex abuse by priests and particularly by the priests that he assigned (Robinson). This apology was given at a news conference delivered by Cardinal Law himself. In an attempt to rebuild the public’s trust, Law set up a team to reach out to alleged victims and accused priests. Law offered psychological and spiritual counseling for the victims and the accused priests. After the victims of John Geoghan were paid off, it seems as if they would have gotten a personal apology from a high rank authority but they got just they opposite. They got what Matt Carroll of the Boston Globe calls a second-hand apology. The archdiocesan spokeswoman, Donna Morrissey, is the one that gave the apology.
