One reason is that the blood alcohol concentration level is higher in elderly people as opposed to younger people. Another reason is that elderly people have less water in their body, which would dilute alcohol better. One would hope that any elderly person with a dependency on alcohol would get treatment from professionals. Women and elderly people have the option to seek treatment. There are plenty of programs to help women with alcohol problems (Women’s Health Weekly 3). Women and elderly people with alcohol problems have the ability and the choice to seek professional help, and it would strongly be recommended. After reading these articles, I was surprised. Women risk not only their physical health, but also their mental health and their social health when becoming dependent on alcohol. Simple thing like walking and shopping should be concerns to women. Risking to give them up for alcohol is absurd. Body pain doesn’t seem like a good price to pay for being an alcoholic.
