...room. They would come to the meeting after a hard day at work to make the rest of their day complete. The meeting started out with an introduction about what step one was about. It explained that every one there has realized that they are becoming powerless over alcohol and it is taking over the way they live. After the introduction a book was handed out called the twelve steps of alcoholics anonymous. Ed the man that ran the program started to read the section of the book title step one. Then the reading went around the room; every one in the room read a paragraph. The section talked about what alcoholism does to your life and the way that its knocking you down to bottom. After reading the book Ed opened the program for discussion. This was probably the most interesting thing that I observed while in there. It seemed like every one in the room had something to share with the group. They would start out by saying their name and that they were an alcoholic. Then would go on talking about how every one in the room is their friend and how happy they were to make it there that night. Also about how proud they are of them selves that they made it that far in recovering from being an alcoholic. That's not all they would talk about. They would talk about how there holidays are going good and that not having a drink and staying sober was the reason why. And they all would say how happy they were to see the new comers in the group and said how good of a program that it was and to keep on coming, that it helps allot. During this open discussion a paper was getting sent around the room for people to write their names and numbers on, so that if they ever had an urge to pick up a drink they could call a member of the group and they could talk them through it. At the end of the meeting when every one was done speaking, every one got up and shook each others hands and said see you next week and for some people see you tomorrow.
