...n friends are people I can count on. For instance, one day I did not go to school because I had a doctor appointment, when I got home my mother told me that many people had called and asked I was sick, while my American friends did not care much if I was missing. Albanians are really hospitable people. Everyone that knocks in our door is welcomed. When Albania did not have any kind of legislation, people created a statute called “The law of Lek Dukagjini”, which was like a constitution for them. The statute ordered that even when your enemy comes and knocks on you door, you must open the door and welcome hi as he was one of your closest friends. This statute does not apply any more, but there are a lot of regions, especially in the northern part or Albania, which still respect it. In Albania even if you are a poor family, and don’t have anything to eat, you have to make big meals when friends come in your house. The Albanian family is very strong. One thing that impressed me the most while I was in United States was the family life. Since I was young, I have been taught that family is very important and the family members have to be really close with each other. In USA the family was nothing like that. The children were not s...
