Those problems that faced farmers led farmers to organize and come up with solutions for their best interests. In document 7 Ignatius Donnelly the founder and Leader of the Populist Part states the reason he believes the populist party was formed he says “Corruption dominates the ballot-box, the legislatures, the congress... we seek to restore the government of the Republic to the hands of the plain people.” But before the Populist Party there was the Farmers Alliance, which brought about great changes such as the Interstate Commerce Commission, which monitored railroad activities, the Interstate Commerce Act which was passed that prohibited railroads from giving secret rebates, or refunds, to large shippers.
