The living conditions in Africville became very poor. The city did not provide plumbing or paved roads, which was needed in Africville. Eventually the city tore down Africville without consulting the community. There was even a situation where a man went to the hospital and when he arrived back at his house it was torn down. Whenever a consultation was taking place they intentionally consulted the older generation instead of the younger gen since they knew that they were not fully educated.
