AFL vs NFL
...om NFL games. The location of an AFL field is always in a dome, where at a NFL field the field can be in a dome or in a outside stadium. Aside from the field, the kicking game is something that is extremely different.. During a AFL drive, the team has 4 downs to advance the ball 10 yards for a first down or to score. On this drive the team can score a touchdown worth 6 points. After the touchdown the team can kick a extra point for 1 point, convert by a drop kick for 2 points or convert on a pass or a run for 2 points. If they do not make it to the end zone they can kick a field goal for 3 points, or a field goal by drop kick for 4 points. During a NFL drive, the team also gets 4 downs to advance the ball 10 yards or score. The team may do this by scoring a touchdown worth 6 points, followed by a extra point worth 1 or a 2 point conversion due to run or pass. If the team doesn’t make it to the end zone, they can kick a field goal for 3 points or punt the ball to the other team. A pass in the AFL that is rebounded off the net is a live ball and is in play until the ball touches the playing surface. The overtime rules of each league are also different. The AFL has 15 min periods as does the NFL. The only exception is that in the AFL, each team gets one possession to score. If the score is tied after the first possessions then it goes to sudden death. In the NFL the first team to score wins, regardless if the other team does not get another possession. The AFL and NFL personnel is also different. In the AFL each team is allowed to have 8 players on the field, most of which play both ways, in the NFL there are 11 players allowed on the field, who all play either offense or defense, with a few exceptions. To give offenses and receivers a little edge, the AFL allows one receiver to go in forward motion before the ball is snapped. This advantage is not given in the NFL.
