Even though they feel they “ought” to do other things, the fact is that they don’t do other activities, which are no longer as desirable as television viewing. Television can distort people’s lives. From television, addicts get a false concept of ideas. Winn said, “ For under the spell of the addictive experience, their lives are peculiarly distorted”. (Winn 538) Television habits distort the sense of time. It renders other experiences vague and unreal while taking on a reality for itself. It weakens relationships by reducing and eliminating normal opportunities for talking and communication. Television has a destructive element because it can damage a person’s life. Many people do not have the ability to control it anymore. The author quotes one man’s account of how television controlled his life.
