Adam Smith(economics)

... the one in which we live today is that in our current system the interest of private companies is put above the interest of the people. I feel that the democratic system that we live in today allows companies to protect themselves by allowing big business to influence the decisions of the media and the government in order to improve the profits and market share of huge multinational companies. Big business also uses the ideas of Adam Smith to its benefit in international affairs as well. If our government was smaller and had less control as Adam Smith advocated, private interest would have less influence on issues that affect the public and in turn big business would have less of an incentive to use the government to advance its own goals. Examples of this are the National Rifle Association, large drug companies, tobacco companies, and oil companies. In economic terms, if our current system was more like Adam Smiths the demand of the people would dictate the goals of the country not the goals of a huge ineffective government and its policies that are slow working and aimed at helping those in control and not the people that it is suppose to serve. In a society where the interests of the people come before private interest is what I think is most productive for an economy in the long run and follows the ideas of a democratic system much better.
