Action Films
...films can easily crossover into other film genres. Action films can always be recognized by characteristics such as the hero. The hero usually consists of many positive human traits. The most common hero attributes are determination, strength, willpower, morality, selflessness, good looks, and the ability to save the human race at the drop of a dime. The hero is typically not a very intelligent character, although he compensates for this flaw by being obsessively driven to succeed, usually because of an injustice that has been inflicted upon him by the villain. Women can also be heroes but this is seen far less often. The villain is another traditional character of the action film genre. The villain is often the complete opposite of the hero. He is usually very educated, or in action film terminology an evil genius. Instead of using his genius for good, the villain is focused on more selfish pursuits such as saving the world. Most villains have a distinguishing feature such as a scare or a menacing voice. The most popular example of this would be Darth Vader. Women in action films always seem to have very basic functions that are to be captured, saved, killed, avenged, look pretty and used as a sex object. Considering that action films are aimed at males between the ages of thirteen to thirty, it is understandable why the lead female character plays a role of the damsel in distress. It seems as though action films would not be complete without chase scenes and fight scenes. These two scenes are very important to action films; this is where most the action occurs. It is at this point of the movie where are senses are bombarded by continuous motion, explosions, and digital effects.
